Rejoice Tories, I’ve sorted your main Euro issue

I heard that bloke Michael “Drone Strikes R US” Fallon on the radio today, being inexpertly interviewed by ex president of the Young Conservatives and ex chair of the Oxford University Conservative Association, Nick Robinson. I’m sure the inexpertly part of that descriptor bears no relation to the other parts.

Fallon kept on repeating a phrase, leading me to believe that this is the Central Office line and part of the narrative that the Tories are trying to construct over negotiations with Europe. That phrase was:

…stop immigrants coming here & claiming in work benefits…

This appears to be at the heart of what the Tories want the discussion over Europe to be about. Hard working Brits justifiably getting in work benefits versus dirty foreigners coming here and claiming in work benefits like some sort of thief in the night.  A thief in the night willing to do a job for less money than an upstanding Brit…

So the good news is, I’ve sorted it! If in work benefits are the problem, lets abolish them and put in place a proper (much higher) living wage. The government will no longer have to subsidise the salaries of the under paid and companies can pay for it out of the huge savings they’ve made in corporation tax, which by 2020 will have dropped by 10 percentage points for large companies since the coalition came to power (28% down to 18%, making the UK one of the bona fide tax havens in Europe).

Job done. Now, about one of those special consultant jobs with a salary of around £143,000…
