Jeep have proudly celebrated their 70th birthday, although as far as I'm concerned they only came to my recognition in the late 1970's when I inherited my cousins Action Man collection which included a traditional army green jeep. It's funny really, as a buzz-cut eagle eyed Action Man is a pretty iconic role model for a lot of kids my age and the Jeep is as pretty iconic as the original SUV.
As well as updating their model line, Jeep are launching a new web portal with the aim of introducing a new social soul to Jeep. jeep-people.com is currently tacking a chap who certainly has the j-factor, Alex Bellini, as he runs 5,000km across country in the USA with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited accompanying him. Running 5,000km is very intense and means to get to cultivate an awesome beard, better even than my Action Man had, because you need all your energy for running. I can't be sure but I think he might even have the eagle eye action.

I certainly couldn't manage to run 5km, let alone 5,000 at the moment but I must say a car like a Jeep Wrangler would be an absolute godsend as I try to get back into scuba diving. Before we had kids I did the first couple of levels of the BSAC qualification and went on several diving holidays, around the UK and abroad. When you have a couple of 12 litre stainless steel air cylinders, bouyancy jackets, fins and all the other paraphenilia, something like my Seat Ibiza doesn't really cut the mustard, especially when you double up with your dive buddy to save on travel costs. The idea of turning up to a remote coastal dive site in something that is the mechanical personification of that gung ho outdoor attitude that deep down makes us all want to be Ray Mears. It's the attitude of freedom that Jeep promotes that appeals to me really, I just love getting out there and doing things.
